We are seeking a highly organized Product Development Assistant with 2–3 years of hands-on experience in product development and sourcing. The role requires technical expertise in managing the product lifecycle from prototype through bulk production, including vendor communication, material sourcing, and sample approvals. Prior experience with travel accessories and handbags is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day product development workflow across assigned categories from proto to bulk production.
  • Review and approve Proto, SMS, Pre-Production (PP), and Top of Production (TOP) samples for construction, materials, workmanship, and compliance to brand standards.
  • Communicate daily with overseas factories to track development progress, troubleshoot issues, and ensure adherence to critical path timelines.
  • Collaborate with sourcing to identify suitable vendors and raw materials that meet cost, quality, and lead-time requirements.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate BOMs, tech packs, CADs, and development specifications in PLM/Excel.
  • Track and manage lab dips, strike-offs, trim cards, and material approvals to ensure consistency across production lots.
  • Monitor testing, compliance, and regulatory requirements (chemical testing, CPSIA, REACH, etc.) to ensure products meet legal and brand standards.
  • Partner with QA/QC to resolve any production quality issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Provide costing support, including negotiating with suppliers, analyzing cost breakdowns, and monitoring margin targets.
  • Prepare development and production reports for cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on timelines and deliverables.

Qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of product development experience in accessories, handbags, or travel goods.
  • Strong knowledge of raw materials (fabrics, leathers, hardware, trims) and manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience approving PP and TOP samples, with an eye for detail in construction and finishing.
  • Proficiency in PLM systems, Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite; Illustrator/Photoshop knowledge a plus.
  • Familiarity with compliance testing standards (CPSIA, REACH, Prop 65, etc.).
  • Ability to manage multiple styles and categories simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with proactive problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for working directly with overseas vendors/factories.
